The Content of the Religious Studies

Each presentation is broken into lesson size units. When you click on
the button on the opening page you go directly to your chosen unit. The
units and specific content for each presentation are:
1.
Life Issues and Human Rights
The units are: Life & Death, Rights and Equality. These
units explore sensitive but relevant issues including the sanctity of
life, the image of God, when does life start? contraception, embryo
research, euthanasia, capital punishment, human rights, animal rights
and prejudice.
2. Religion, Marriage and Relationships
The units are Sexual Ethics and Marriage. The units include sex and
marriage form a religious standpoint including Christian teaching and
original sin, attitudes to marriage, the family, divorce, gay marriage
and marriage and the priesthood.
3. Work, Wealth and Charity
The units are: Money and Charity, Money Ethics, The Golden Rule, Work
and Rest. These units include biblical attitudes to money including the
root of all evil, the parable of the rich fool, the poor, caring for
others, the attitudes of other religions to charity and money, issues
about the morality of money, consumerism, business, the Golden rule for
Christians and other major religions, work and the Sabbath.
4. War and Religion
The units are: Religious Attitudes, Morality of War, Anti War and Holy
War. These units include examples of seemingly conflicting attitudes to
war in the Bible, the differences between the Old and New Testaments,
questions about why nations go to war, whose side God is on and the
concept of a just war, genocide, pacifism, Martin Luther King, nuclear
weapons and Holy war.

The units are: Is there a God? For God, Against God and Beliefs. These
units cover the debate about the existence of God form individual belief
to the design argument, first cause, the experience of God argument,
arguments against God including suffering and scientific views, belief
form experience, revelation, the nature of God, Satan, and life after
death.
6. The Natural World
The units are: Creation, Science & Religion and Stewardship. These units
include creation beliefs of the major religions, scientific explanations
and Darwinism, how religion has influenced our attitudes towards the
natural world and the idea of stewardship.
7. The Church
The units are: The Building, Variation, Sacraments, Events. These units
include the church as a building and its design, denominations, history,
ecumenism, different types of worship, sacraments and the associated
beliefs , holy communion, baptism, important Christian times of the year
including Holy Week, and Christmas and pilgrimage.
8. The Life of Jesus
The units are: Christian Jesus, Time setting, His Life and Holy Week.
The units include who was Jesus? how do we find out about Jesus,
variation in the Gospels the Trinity, interpreting the Bible, the
historical, geographical and political setting, his life, miracles and
teachings, the events leading up to the crucifixion and the empty tomb.
